Protecting your personal belongings sometimes slips your mind while you are out enjoying the sun. Here are a few tips to keep in mind to make sure you are taking preventative measures to save yourself from thieves who are looking for a quick grab. Only take things that you need. Is it necessary to take everything with you to the beach? It’s doubtful and chances are you run a bigger risk of being targeted by thieves if you have attractive items laying around. Leave jewelry, watches, wallets or other expensive items at home or out of sight. Try and only take the items that you will realistically need. Take turns. Having someone from your party watch over everyone’s stuff is a simple way to keep thieves away. It is more likely they will stay away if someone is playing “guard”. Go waterproof. It’s harder to have your things stolen if you have them on you. Waterproof phone cases and pouches may be a good investment for you if you spend a lot of your free time at the beach this summer. Get creative. Take the DIY approach and clean out a sun screen container or even a water bottle that you can’t see through and use that to stow small items. It is impossible to be 100% safe from crimes but it is always great to take as many precautionary measures as you can to ensure safety. At the end of the day, common sense is the best defence against theft. Be alert and stay safe!
